Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today was the last session before our "summer break." I first used a cartoon drawing tool to review the body parts, animals, colors and the vocabulary from the previous session. We had fun in drawing and coloring, then the new vocab she learnt today was: Squirrel. after the drawing and practicing we played a chess game to review and practice the conversation. She's got better at the game too! :)"
"Today we reviewed everything we have learned: words about numbers 1-15, colors, animal words, foods, verbs like throw, catch, eat, drink, kick... We played a ball game using verbs like throw and catch and kick, color words, nouns like ball. We made cupcakes during the session so that we could learn the words like the color brown, hot, chocolate, soft, delicious etc. We practiced new animal words like dog and cat and fish while playing with stuffed animals and other toys. We also worked on courtesy phrases like I'm sorry, thank you, not at all, and greeting phrases like how are you, long time no see, goodbye. Also some simple words to tell time, e.g. 2 o'clock."
"I just had a Chinese lesson with the student. He is a quick learner. He is able to memorize some vocabulary in one minute. We talked about some new vocabulary and some phrases. He is doing great. He knows many Chinese characters and he said he loves it a lot. I am sure he will be great in Chinese."
"On this day, we continued to build knowledge of conjugations of imperfect, conditional, perfect, present, preterite, past participle, and future tenses. The student did a good job at doing the various drills."
"We were checking his homework and then we started to talk about ethics, in order to talk as much as we could we started with small situations or not that complex end we ended up with really complex topics. The objective was to use subjunctive and we accomplished it. The student is becoming more fluent but what is better is that he is learning more things and also correcting his mistakes."
"Today was my first session tutoring the student and I helped him study for his test tomorrow, which is a final exam. We reviewed the preterite versus the imperfect tenses and por vs. para. He is a very good student but he struggles a bit with remembering vocabulary. So, I tested him and for the words he could not remember I suggested that he put them into a quiz. I felt by the end of the session that he was prepared for his exam tomorrow and look forward to working with him next year."
