Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student will have some midterms this week. She already had her English one last week and feels that it went well. We studied French for her midterm. We studied several verbs and their conjugations, vocabulary, and how to construct sentences."
"The student and I continued working on elaborating his ideas in writing. Because he has difficulty with writing interesting endings to his stories, we created several alternative conclusion sentences for two stories. As always, he received the information very well, readily recanted the information when asked for summaries, and had a great attitude throughout the entire lesson. Moving forward with his new tutor, I have advised him to continue transforming his short sentences into more elaborate ones by incorporating more adverbs and adjectives as well as keeping momentum from beginning to end. It was a pleasure working with him, and I have noticed great progress."
"Today the student and I want over her math quiz and she worked on her humanities test. Her math quiz received an 84/100, and most of the points were lost to simple mistakes, such as not simplifying or not inserting a decimal point. We went over these, and she definitely understood all the concepts on the test. Her humanities test went well, and she was writing longer, more in depth answers than when we first started working together."
"The student and I worked together to edit her essay on Dante's Inferno. We picked out the areas of her essay that could use more careful reading of the source material, and we reworded phrases to improve clarity and style."
"The student and I continued to work on completing the study guide for his upcoming exam on the American Revolution. Although we were able to answer several questions on the guide, we spent large portions of time talking about the significance of major events that happened in the Revolution and their relation to the United States today. I believe that this enabled him to better conceptualize how and why the American Revolution was important. He was enthusiastic throughout this session and put forth a solid effort for the entire 90 minutes."
"We explored ways to determine a thesis topic. I taught the student how to focus on her topic so that she could do research on her topic. We came up with relevant questions so that she can begin to explore the topic she chose."
