Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had started the chapter on trig ratios. We worked on finding the sine, cosine, tangent, secant, cosecant, and cotangent of given triangles. She also used the inverse trig function to find the angle given the sine, cosine, or tangent. She did very well with these exercises. Trig is very applicable and visual, so she should do fine with this chapter."
"Our initial session was held today. The student expressed difficulty with normal distribution and z-scores. We worked through homework assigned and extra problems to ensure that he understood the concept. I also reviewed previous lessons on solving exponents and logarithms. He seemed to have a better understanding by the end of the session."
"The student and I worked on his project, which involved modeling cubic, inverse, and radical functions to a specific shape. We talked about how to find constraints for these graphs and the variables in their equations."
"The student made corrections to her last quiz and completed her homework. She would have done very well on the quiz, but forgot to turn in some of her work, so the corrections should bring her grade up. Her homework used the point-distance formula and the Pythagorean theorem, which she has a good understanding of. Our main focus is strengthening vocabulary and word problem-solving skills."
"Today, the student and I worked on calculus 2. We talked about computing Taylor series and then practiced writing the first few terms including the general term. We then answered some practice AP test questions that involved Taylor series. We also did some interval of convergence problems using the ratio test. I pointed out how the ratio of convergence of the Taylor series is just the distance between the center and the nearest discontinuity."
"We covered squares and square roots. I recommended the student memorize and be familiar with the squares for 1-20. We did some problems in estimating roots and covered the concept of rational and irrational numbers. We also reviewed some percents. She did well overall."
