Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I worked on more calculus 2. After talking a bit more about Taylor series we went on to talking about the various convergence tests. We defined and applied the nth term test, integral test, ratio test, root test, limit comparison test, alternating series test, and the geometric series test."
"The student worked on his percent change homework. We tried a new strategy of having him take notes for him to refer back to when doing his homework. This seemed to work well and he will do so again in the future."
"The student and I continued our work on summations and series. One of the main questions he had was how to identify a geometric series, so we went over some examples where the summation had to be manipulated in order to get into the right form, to help him recognize how the original could be a geometric series. I also gave a couple examples of what looks like a geometric series but truthfully isn't, and he was good at identifying that they weren't the correct form and why. We rounded out the lesson with some AP Statistics questions, as he knows I tutor that too. We talked about z-scores vs. t-scores and when and why they are used."
"In this session we prepared for an exam covering the topics of arithmetic and geometric series and sequences. We used review materials provided by the classroom teacher. The student took the test on the 18th and received a grade of 91%."
"The student and I worked on a test review over factoring that I used in my classroom. He was doing pretty well overall. The only thing I think he probably needs work on is finding the GCF and maybe a little factoring practice. I don't think he gets to use a calculator in class and so getting faster at that will help him on his timed tests. We will continue to work on these."
"We reviewed the student's assignment on new material. We then discussed his performance on his recent math and science tests. He did well enough to maintain his grade in both classes."
