Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we reviewed calculation percent composition, mole, molar mass, finding empirical formula and molecular formula. We also looked at reaction types and balancing equations. The student has a test in this information for Tuesday. He was able to solve most problems I gave him and we worked on everything he did not get the first time. "
"Primarily discussed Geometry and Functions. Covered other various topics. The student shows strong skills in working with numbers and performing algebra. Needs help in analyzing the questions properly and understanding what the questions are truly asking for."
"The student and I worked on proofreading and revising his compare-and-contrast vacation essay. He has made great progress in his writing skills - he is now comfortable brainstorming, planning an introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, and developing a strong thesis. We talked about more advanced topics such as keeping a consistent perspective throughout the essay, using your conclusion to re-state the introduction in light of what you said in the body paragraphs, and using creative details and expressions. We also began reading Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow."
"The student and I had a great first session! We primarily went over strategies for how to study for and learn biology. These include diagramming and creating study guides with a combination of self-designed diagrams and definitions of concepts. We briefly reviewed geometry, focusing on right triangles and surface area of polyhedrons."
"We continued to do more practice with fractions, which the student seems to have improved on a lot. Then we moved on to adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing with a mix of positive and negative numbers. Multiplication and division are going well because of a story she had learned in class, but she keeps taking that concept and mixing it up when it comes to addition and subtraction. I feel like with more practice, she will learn the two separate concepts and will succeed in this topic. Throughout the lesson she had even shown improvement so hopefully in the next lesson she will be prepared for the quiz on Friday and ready for the next topic that builds upon this."
"The student and I had a great session tonight. We tackled personal pronouns then moved on to second-declension nouns. Both pieces of grammar allowed for a thorough review of case functions."
