Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Life Science-reviewed genetic coding, function of chromosomes & RNA, meiosis. Prepared for chapter 5 test. Pre-Algebra-previewed chapter 4 requirements: prime/composite numbers, fractions."
"Focused on reading comprehension and vocabulary. Some math review. I urged the student to focus on learning vocabulary. She also agreed to send me a scanned answer sheet for the placement test 1 from the prep book by Thursday. The student is very strong in math-- she just needs to focus on reading the questions thoroughly. She is also strong in determining proper sentence structure so long as she understands all the words in the text."
"The student and I worked on money calculations; specifically, we practiced making change and calculating unit price. We plan to review percentages during our next session and calculate discounts (with money). The student was very cooperative and attentive during the session; she has shown significant improvement in many of her math skills and appears to be quite advanced for her age/grade. She and her parents continue to work through their assessment practice book throughout the week."
"This week we continued preparing for the student's final exam in Latin. As we'd already gone over the review packet last week, this week we went through the rest of the translation passage that we started at the end of the previous session. He continues to have some difficulty with vocabulary. With some words, I have come up with mnemonics to help in remembering them. Once he knows the meanings of the words, he does pretty well at dealing with grammatical constructions, especially the various subordinate clauses, like purpose and result clauses. We were able to complete the entire passage during the session, and had a bit of time left for a practice sight-reading sentence on the review sheet."
"We did math: discussed a number line and fact families - worked on addition and subtraction facts. The student read (independently) the book, "Fun in the Sun," which we read together during our first session. We also worked on site words. The session went well."
"The student is learning so fast! I love how interested she is in the subject matter. She already knows her colors, fruits, and basic pleasantries. Next, I want to start working on body parts and facial features. After that, we will start learning some command phrases (sit down, stand up, come with me, etc.) and then move into any vocabulary she would like to learn."
