"The student and I went over some more conversions today along with finding empirical and molecular formulas and hydrated molecules. The student is doing very well in picking up the material and doing the problems."
"The student and I worked on ACT science passages and English passages. She does very well on these two subjects. Next week we will work on the SAT since she takes it the following Saturday, and then the week after we will focus on the ACT again. We only have two sessions remaining."
"We worked mainly on the math section today- I wanted to go over some of his weak areas and have him solve problems involving these. He is good at understanding the concepts in math, but he is making mistakes because he is trying to solve the questions too fast, and I want to make sure he maintains his efficiency but at the same time answers the questions accurately and understands how to solve them without making errors. I wrote down a list of all the concepts he could use some work on in math, and we will continue to work on this stuff to make sure he gets a great score in this section. We are going to start focusing more on the test-taking strategies and tactics so that he can really boost his score. We got through a lot today, and it was a good session!"
"The student is a wonderful girl! She's interesting and committed. We spent a good amount of time on the math portion, which stumps her because she's not used to the phrasing of the questions, which test mathematical reasoning more often than actual math skills. She is convinced she's bad at math, but I am telling her math is not something you are innately good or bad at--you learn it like a language! We spent a bit of time on vocabulary/sentence completion as well discussing strategies for how to tell what kind of word is being looked for, eliminating words you know are wrong even if you don't know all the word choices, and making educated guesses when possible. I also explained the scoring of the SAT and that it's fine to leave it blank if you can't eliminate any answers and improve your odds of guessing correctly."
"Today was our last session, and during it we went over the practice sections that the student had for homework. He did very well on the reading section. We continued to work on the reading comprehension section, where he has really improved on his test-taking strategies. I see that he is much more confident in choosing a response and being able to support his answer with evidence from the passage. Additionally, we worked a bit on the Error ID section, where he has made significant improvements as well. I think that he should continue to study vocabulary while doing practice sections for the next few weeks. With some more independent practice, I think he will be very ready for the SATs in March. It was really great working with him!"
"We discussed some problem areas the student had on his last test. One problem area involved creating a client program that could manipulate addresses. We worked through the problem, discussing how the program would be created."
