Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"For this session, we focused on math and history. We used the workbook to complete several word problems. Between this and the history portion, I had her take the learning style test. She scored multimodal, focusing on visual and kin. We talked about various ways to use this to her advantage. For history, she completed several pages of reading, multiple choice, graphing, and writing on scientists and the dating of history. I asked her to review all work at home. We will meet again on Sunday."
"The student studied for her English language arts test and also her theology test. She finished her algebra homework as well."
"Yesterday was my first session with the student. We discussed his schedule for the year so I could get a feel for what classes he is going to need the most help with. We spent the rest of the session completing his Spanish homework on irregular spelling verbs, and algebra 2 homework on inequalities."
"The student has tests in both English and Spanish classes tomorrow. We reviewed vocabulary and verb patterns to prepare in Spanish. This time, when I spoke to her in Spanish, she generally understood what I am saying. Like many of us, it seems that her biggest obstacle is trusting her instincts and her knowledge. She knows the vocabulary, structures and expectations solidly and should do very well on this test. We also reviewed the Shakespearean vocabulary, some of which she will need to study a little more. Now she knows some colorful insults (not that I expect her to often actually voice them!). As always, she is a delight to work with."
"The student and I discussed what he has been learning in English and history. We talked about the main plot points and themes in Of Mice and Men -- he knew the big ideas but needed review on specific events in the plot, as well as how to connect those events to the larger themes. We also reviewed the Industrial Revolution and how it laid the groundwork for political revolutions across the world, which is what he is beginning in history this week."
"During today's session, the student and I worked on spelling quite a bit. She was able to correctly spell 6/10 eighth grade spelling words. She has difficulty with some vowel blends when they are in the middle of words. We will work on that for the next session. We also discussed her organization. We talked about a planner because she is unable to remember when tests are. I suggested she write it down or look on her gradebook program on the computer. For the next session, we are going to work on science."
