Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I today started working on mean, median, mode and range of numbers. He seems to have a pretty good grasp of these concepts and his homework doesn't seem to be challenging him. In the future I plan on bringing sixth grade work to attempt to challenge him in math."
"The student and I continued our final review. This session included a broad group of subjects: inequalities, shading the truth (number lines), and algebraic substitution. We also returned to the discussion of what values make functions defined or undefined."
"With the student, I looked over his completed review packets for his upcoming midterm exam, and made sure he did everything correctly. We then practiced factoring and FOILing polynomial expressions. I looked over his math homework to make sure he did everything correctly. We then practiced some math word problems as well as identifying and writing sentences with compound subjects and predicates."
"The student has the science knowledge down cold; he should do really well with that. On math, he grappled with a couple of review questions but he seemed to have it sorted out by the time I left. Continuing to review old tests and quizzes is a good way to study."
"The student has a test on inequalities tomorrow, so we went through the review sheet her teacher gave. She had no trouble with solving and graphing single-variable inequalities or systems of two-variable inequalities. She expressed uncertainty regarding absolute value, but was able to graph and explain the four absolute value functions we practiced. She also seemed hesitant with the word problems, but did an excellent job translating the sentences into inequalities and solving. She is well-prepared for her test, and deserves a very high grade."
"We reviewed questions from a practice test she had started in class, continued to cover proportions and comparing two populations, and worked through problems concerning criteria for performing these types of tests including calculating the minimal size of a population of interest and validating a Simple Random Sample."
