Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we spent most of our time reading in his chapter book. Additionally we continued to work on phonics cards to help him sound out and combine sounds. We will work a combination of these cards into each session. He continues to do well with the practice sentences. He is making good progress."
"The student and I discussed the poetry of Shel Silversteen tonight. Then we moved to math. We worked math problems orally. She enjoyed the different passages and did very well with the math. She was correct 99% of the time."
"Tonight, the student and I continued our review, focusing on the subjects that will be tested first this week, Reading and Language Arts. She read several short passages and answered questions about what she read. The questions asked her to analyze the text, make inferences, and identify literary elements. She did very well with all of these tasks, not displaying any of the testing issues that she has previously. We also briefly discussed math, and she did well on the short review that I gave her. I will see her again before she takes that portion of the exam and that, along with history, will be the focus of our next session."
"The student recently had a parent/teacher conference at school, and his teacher indicated we should focus on reading comprehension, cohesive sentences, and vocabulary. His mother is providing classwork that needs to made up in these areas."
"The student and I went over his weekly spelling words given to him for homework. We worked on sight words. Next, we reviewed homework I had assigned the student from last week. The remainder of the time was spent doing reading comprehension and writing. The student was left with a reading comprehension assignment to complete."
"Today's session was successful. The student was able to focus on her writing and produce a good, detailed paragraph about the character she created yesterday. We're working on getting her to focus more on specifics when generating ideas."
