Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked through several different practice books, including Algebra, Logic Lift-off (focusing on verbal analogies and figure patterns), and Building Thinking Skills (focusing on synonyms and antonyms). She has an excellent vocabulary and had little difficulty with the figural or verbal pattern-finding. I assigned several pages of homework for the upcoming week. We plan to meet again next Saturday, January 19."
"Today I helped the student catch up on some of his homework. We also reviewed vector applications, mostly involving converting magnitude and angles into vector form and calculating the combined vector. He also told me he got a good grade on his last test."
"The student has a map quiz over the northern half of Africa in her geography class tomorrow. We spent the majority of the session reviewing the countries and capital cities covered on the quiz. She did fairly well identifying the countries. We came up with a few phrases and rhymes to help her remember these. I suggested she and her sister quiz each other for additional review. For the final 20 minutes we discussed an upcoming presentation she has to make in her English class. She must choose a book or story which contains a traditional hero's journey and present it before her classmates. She has chosen the 7th Harry Potter book. We talked about how she plans to answer the questions on her teacher's handout and what she will use as a visual aid."
"We worked on more physics problems, including questions focused on electric fields and unit conversion. The student is developing a much more solid grasp of physics problems and what it takes to approach them."
"The student and I covered some math, particularly angles and circles, and then spent some time on reading comprehension. She feels discouraged about whether she can improve on the reading comp because she sometimes doesn't pick up on the nuances of language that are essential for answering some of the questions. We'll keep working on it, I have great faith in her!"
"We went through the student's case and made corrections for several of the assumptions in the case and adjustments--this ended up producing very strong alterations to the case. The adjustments will allow her to move forward and make the appropriate calculations and assumptions for her work."
