Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on his chemistry worksheet for stoichiometry. We also completed his geometry assignment on factoring. Overall it was a good session."
"We continued our review session on the topics covered on his biology exam. We went over food chain, carbon cycle, nitrogen cycle, and revisited DNA structure and function."
"Today, we spent some time getting the student's chemistry materials organized. After that, he settled in to work on some of the chemistry stuff that he needs to turn in."
"In today's session, I spoke to the student and encouraged him to use his agenda and to write what sections of homework he has to do in there. He is doing better on his exams compared to the past. I find that he struggles at times with understanding concepts in math. He knows how to plug and chug into the formulas, however he doesn't know how it can be applied in a different context. I spent a great deal of time explaining to him how volume works and explained how the volume of each shape is dependent on the base shape. This seemed to clarify the issue for him. Also, another aspect that holds him back a bit is that he is not always retaining the information taught in previous months/years. In our next session, I plan to go over past material to help him further understand the concepts he is learning."
"Today, we began the tutoring session with Math. After this, the student worked on an English assignment, which he did not struggle with at all. Additionally, the student worked on a History assignment about the Civil War."
"The student and I went over math homework, reviewing the mistakes he made on his last math test, and completing 2 Bible commentaries. First, he had to watch a video his math teacher posted on triangles. After taking notes on the video, we began work on reviewing his math test. His last math test covered proportions, ratios, and probability. He told me that he felt very comfortable with the material, and he was able to point out his errors fairly quickly. He did have some issues on two problems, but we went over them in detail to make sure he understood how to do them correctly. I also made up similar problems to make sure he could complete those problems on his own without my guidance. Finally, we worked on 2 commentaries from John 8 and John 9. He engaged well with the text. He will read chapter one of Fahrenheit 451 and discuss his opinions in it with me tomorrow."
