Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we completed our final lesson before the June SAT. We reviewed all the strategies for test day, and then the student did a practice section as well."
"The student and I met for our first SAT prep session. The student has not had any exposure to the SAT so the first things we talked about were the general layout of the test and two key strategies: How to pace yourself and when to guess. Next we launched into an exploration of the tricks and traps of SAT math. SAT math is not difficult because the level of the math is really high. It is difficult because they write the questions in a way that tricks many students. We went through a list of problems to show some of the common tricks. She demonstrated good command of basic algebra and I was very happy to see that she does not resist writing out her steps. This is very important. The key to good SAT math performance is more about reading the questions carefully and writing out your steps than it is about any high level math skills. We talked about having a consistent way to approach all math problems. We also talked about translation from words to math and the strategy of picking your own numbers"
