Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we reviewed the student's promotion essay. She was able to fit the material into the required format by streamlining sentences and reformatting paragraphs. The final copy reads well out-loud and maintains a positive outlook throughout. Don't be afraid to get a second opinion from a peer or your spouse, but if you make any changes, do check for the spacing to move on certain paragraphs. The assignments are coming along well, and we now know the expectations your teacher has for your writing, such as using APA formatting. Looking at the returned draft of your first paper should instill quite a bit of confidence as there were few corrections and this is your first attempt at serious writing in a long matter of time. I think your essay looks great, and I wish you luck with the promotion board!"
"In today's session we covered the following: * Argumentative writing/debate: today we continued our discussion of argument along with proper ways to argue in an orderly manner. The student did really well with formulating statements that supported his side. She initially had a hard time, but after a bit of practice was able to create a very well articulated argument. Word Work: we worked on differentiating between words with long a and long e sounds. Newspaper Project: we will be spending the next few sessions working on creating a newspaper. In today's session we did a brainstorm of topics, featured column, and article ideas, which we will begin to draft on Friday."
"[COVERED/PROGRESS/CHALLENGES]: The student asked for advice and help with his application essay. We went over the vocab/grammar issues, as well as writing style and narrative cohesion. He was very excited to see how dramatically his draft improved and hear the validation of his merit as an applicant. [EXTRA PRACTICE]: Grammar drills. For next session, one verbal and one bio passage on gene expression."
