Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I helped the student with math homework, review for a Bible quiz tomorrow, and answering civics questions. We started with taking notes off a video his math teacher uploaded about angles and their properties. After that, we reviewed for his Bible quiz, for which he had all the questions and answers provided by his teacher in class today. We finally worked on filling out a map concerning alliances in WWI, and then answering questions based on textual reading. We did plot out a schedule for completing the assignment by Friday, so I was pleased with his willingness to work on his time management skills. I finally suggested a book that he could start reading for his English blog posts at the end of the month. We will see if the book I suggested, "Fahrenheit 451," is going to be a good fit for him."
"First, I was pleased to see that the student has now received her textbooks. Second, the student showed me her progress report for her math class. Third, the student completed some English and math homework during our session."
"We started with Student 1 today and she completed her science and math worksheet. Student 2 had already completed his math worksheet over angles when I got to him, so he worked on completing his online HW. The student had no problem understanding angles, and we even got a chance to go a little further and talk about how all triangles equal 180 degrees."
"Today, the student and I worked on her history and English assignments from school. For history, we worked on geography by locating mountain ranges, the location of capital cities, and the placements of the states on the Atlantic coast (Mid-Atlantic, New England, and Eastern Coastal). For history, we worked on identifying and correcting run-on sentences. To do that, she could either make the run-on sentence two sentences or combine them with an appropriate conjunction. We finished with working on the preposition worksheet I brought. For this exercise, I had her explain to me what she believed a preposition was and how to locate one in a sentence. After that, she had to complete 10 sentences using the correct preposition."
"The student had a great and positive attitude. Today we went over some of her homework (vocabulary and dividing fractions). She was doing very well with her fractions and understood the concept nicely. When I showed her concepts (like how to solve 16x3 in her head by breaking it into (10x3)+(6x3)), she did well. I looked through her progress report and she had great scores in most of the more kinesthetic and creative courses (like art, PE, social studies, and music) and lower scores for math, English, religion, and other more paper-based courses. We will work on her improving in all areas going forward."
"The student worked on matt, and did 2 minute addition fluency. He worked on 6th grade reading comprehension and sentence structure. We also worked on 2 concepts that he was struggling with; rounding money to the nearest dollar and adding them as well as calculating duration of travel time."
