Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The entirety of this session was spent on review problems for the student's upcoming final. We covered many topics, but spent the most of the time on factoring techniques and the properties of exponents and logarithms. We also spent a bit of time on finding the roots (square roots, cubic roots, etc.) of non-prime integers, both in general and in order to simplify larger expressions. The primary factoring technique we reviewed was testing factors by using long division of likely candidates on polynomial expressions. After a few practice problems, he seemed to have pretty good understanding of the general processes involved; just a little more individual practice will help him solidify the material."
"I worked with the student on solving for inequalities with Conic sections. Also helped work on linear programming and solving conic sections algebraically."
"The student has a test on conic sections. Her teacher has only taught them parabolas and circles. We went over distance formula to solve for equations of parabolas, and using tangent lines to solve for equations of circles."
"The student worked on his five times tables. We made flashcards, used manipulatives to study, and worked on increasing his memory of these. He read his practice reading books. He needs to work on the word "terrain" and "train." His "a" and "e" vowel words are improving and we will continue to work on these."
"Today, the student and I focused on her quick math skills. We started by doing a timed math worksheet, which she excelled at! I can tell she has been practicing. We then worked on what she is learning in class. We did about 10 problems together, and by the 3rd, she knew how to solve them easily. We then found two books to read so we could continue to sharpen her reading skills. It was an excellent session!"
"Today, the student and I went over her worksheets. We focused on fraction multiplication and division, area and volume, and place value. She learned quickly and had a great attitude. We decided that she would finish the worksheets on her own and schedule another session this week to prepare for her upcoming midterm."
