Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed for both the student's algebra quiz (polynomials) and physics exam (horizontal projectile motion). She is doing very well with both subjects - she didn't need much assistance after the beginning of the session. We spent most of the time doing quantitative problems, but spent the last 20 minutes talking conceptually about projectiles."
"Today the student and I went over her homework on writing a best fit line to a group of points in section 5.4 of her book. Most of the problems involved setting up an equation using two points by finding the slope and y-intercept. She understood the steps in her homework very well, and we managed to finish it with 20 minutes to spare. After finishing her homework, she wanted to go over sections 5.1-5.3, which was the material covered before break. We went on page 291 of her book and did a mini-quiz that covers sections 5.1-5.3. In the 20 minutes, she completed the problems with ease."
"The student didn't have any new homework, so we went through the practice test for her midterm next week. The topics she wanted to focus on were domain and range of piece-wise functions, and transformations of functions. We focused on using the graph to analyze solutions to each equation, or ranges where no value was defined; and on how different transformations to an equation change what a "parent function" looks like."
"The student had an entire homework assignment on solving systems of equations by elimination. He worked about 20 problems. I worked them out while he did the same. He is very independent and attempts everything on his own first. He had very few questions and was very confident about this section. His first progress report for the semester is great from his teacher!"
"The student completed a word problem on systems of equations, and even finished the extra credit problem as well. We went over his homework and started reviewing for his Algebra II make-up test and final exam. I gave him ideas for exam notes and helped review some of his rougher subjects briefly. He agreed to ask his teachers about remaining missing assignments, and plans to get English late work in by Friday's deadline. Afterwards, he will begin preparing for finals. He seems to know which subjects are difficult for him, and will focus his exam notes on these."
"The student managed to get all of his work in on time, so today's session was much more relaxed. We touched on his science and math homework. specifically solving systems of equations graphically for math and going over a lab for science. He had the general concepts down, so for the most part I was just checking his work today."
