Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on the second half of her review test today. We covered a couple problems that we weren't able to finish yesterday, then moved on to new problems. We looked at Taylor and Maclaurin series, determining the convergence of series based on the ratio test, and the integration of functions using u-substitution, partial fractions, and integration by parts. At the end, I also gave her a few problems to review covering log rules and the volumes of rotated bodies. I think our sessions went well. We looked at almost all of the problems on her mock exam, and I think she understands the material we reviewed better after our sessions."
"This session comprised of teaching the shell method of integration. After doing a handful of examples, the student and I worked on a sample worksheet provided by his teacher. The shell problems themselves consisted mostly of graphing the problem and determining the integral. At this point, I am confident in his ability to do almost any integral once it has been set up properly, so our emphasis was on figuring out how to properly define the terms of the shell. The last half of this session involved volumes of known solids (pyramids, squares about shapes, etc.)."
"We covered more topics for her upcoming test, including completing the square, quadratic formulas, and rational expressions. We also went over a review sheet that her teacher gave her."
"In today's session, I came up with problems for the student to work on. She is currently learning division with decimals. Because this was an easier day that was just practice, we went back and forth playing small games and answering math questions. Her attitude was great throughout the session."
"The student and I began reviewing long division. We used sticky notes to keep each equation organized and differentiate each step in the problem. We reviewed the steps for long division. She has definitely improved in this subject."
"In this session, we worked through the first two sections of chapter 8. The student did a really great job of picking up the information quickly, and I'm confident that he'll be prepared by next week."
