Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We discussed the student's TV paper. We went over her points more in-depth and found websites for her to cite as sources. She felt more secure in the substance when I left, and she will write the first half of her first draft before our next session."
"During today's session we continued our work on the student's vocabulary words. She did very well. We also spent a significant portion of the session working on transcription; I would give her a simple sentence and she would have to write it out. She did well. For next session, we are going to work on some Math and introduce subtraction."
"We worked on creating a fluid outline based on the student's refined thesis statement. We then assigned each section of the existing content to the appropriate section of the outline. He will work on reorganizing the paper based on the work we did today as well as adding the facts and explanations requested before our next session."
"I brought some short word problems to see how well the student could transfer her reading comprehension into math. I was pleased to see that she breezed through it, and could figure out exactly what she should do based off of the information she was given. She also had to finish some math homework where a few word problems were involved in as well. I might bring in more complicated problems next time. I also had her read a new book, "Grandfather Buffalo," timing her as usual, and asking her comprehension questions. I'm happy to say that upon her first read of it, her WPM was 88, which means she's reaching our goal of making her WPM more consistently close to 90. My goal is to now see if we can reduce the number of mistakes she makes as she goes along."
"I met the student for the first time today. We went over the expectations for our sessions. Then we did speech exercises. We went over how to best enunciate certain words in English. We spent a good deal of time doing reading exercises to improve retention and comprehension. We read a speech from "The Great Dictator" in order to begin a vocabulary journal. We then did more exercises for speed and retention over a physics article. She wrote whatever she could remember, then recited the basic ideas of the article in English to improve comprehension and enunciation. I look forward to working with the student."
"The client is working on exam questions for his dissertation. He likes to get a second opinion on his writing so that it is on topic and clear. We go over his essay prompts and drafts and discuss how to organize the points and make sure they flow in a manner that is understandable and using proper grammar and punctuation in addition to proper APA formatting."
