Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"She did a great job. We worked on fractions for part of the time because I was told that is a concept they have begun working on in her class at school. We also talked a little bit about her testing because she was in the middle of taking the assessment test that week. We went over believing in yourself and a few easy test taking strategies. It was a good session."
"Today the student and I went into more detail on each review question. We covered the first 15 or so questions, and the exact strategy, concept and method behind solving each one. The student is doing great on the work, and should do great on the upcoming test in October."
"- SAT Writing, SAT Math: Worked through practice writing section and discussed items to watch out for, e.g. dangling modifiers, subject-verb agreement, parallelism; briefly revisited previous week's math section and worked through additional problems."
"After the student outlined the rhetorical analysis on King's "I Have A Dream" speech, he wrote a rough draft that I reviewed today."
"Covered the structure of an atom, charges of its three particles, how electrons are placed in ascending rings, how atoms want to have 2 or 8 electrons in outer levels to be "happy" or stable, and began talking about bonds by looking at the structure of CO2 and H20 molecules. Helped student set up space plant experiment by constructing a shared spreadsheet in which she will write her observations of plant growth daily and I will respond by drawing what I think she has described."
"The student and I spent the section reviewing the homework I assigned from the last session, and then we went over the math and English sections of the SAT. The student is very strong in both of these sections, and I believe he will do very well on the real thing."
"Worked with the student on her homework and read through several books. We established a new plan for tutoring sessions to help the student be a bit more productive, and the new guidelines seem to have helped her a lot."
"The student and I met and quickly went over the reading and writing comprehension sections assigned for homework. He really hit these out of the part and we only had a few errors to correct. To his credit as soon as he realized he made an error he found the correct answer quickly. We then began a math section and really kept up a good pace. Lastly we went over some essay work and then reviewed vocabulary."
"The student and I covered the chapters that required the calculation of the derivative using limits. We went through several problems."
"We worked through one practice exam that The student had completed prior to our meeting and went over the answers that he got wrong. We also went through 2 practice essays and discussed content, examples, how to plan out writing the essay, and we wrote the introduction for one essay. We also looked at examples of graded essays and discussed what the strengths and weaknesses were of the essays. "
"We went over the math problems he was struggling with, and I assigned more of the same type for his homework. We also went over more vocab and vocab strategies, as well as reading."
"The student did very well today again. We got through Power Index and Volatility, and then he was able to do practice problems on his own. He is in good shape for tomorrow. My recommendation is that he write down which use the full numbers as percents and which use decimals."
