Tutoring review by Alexander in Mounds, OK
We started with a quick review of what we covered so far. Then we spent the rest of the time going over practice problems. The problems we worked on were finding the angles between the two hands of a clock depending on what time it was. The student struggled on the first problem or two but quickly got the hang of it after I explained how to go about the problem. He also kept getting the radius and the diameter mixed up, but he fixed this problem as well when I gave him a little trick to remember the difference: the line across the circle and through the center creates a 'D' for diameter. He is a great student and quick to fix his mistakes.

This was a good first session. The student shows a willingness to learn and apply diagramming concepts to logic games sections. He has a (typical) slow and careful approach to using his diagram to solve the problems given; however with practice, and "having faith in the diagram," he should improve accuracy and speed. I will provide him a full preptest to take before the next session, which I will grade to determine a good future path to take. While his focus is on logic games, I would still like to see a full, timed, test-condition test to establish a good baseline. He has lots of materials, which is good, but he should be wary of getting stuck in the "recognizing X problem and applying Y solution" mechanical approach many books use to explain problems. More exposure to problem set types and subsequent practice with them is likely to lead to the best results.

Tutoring review by Claudia in Mounds, OK
I met this student and established her learning style. She is eager to learn and very attentive. Her strong points include a high level of understanding of basic math which will influence her positively as we move on. A habit we considered changing was going to quickly when doing problems. Hopefully then we will be able to catch simple mistakes.

The student and I had our first session. We spent some time talking about some problems where she had questions. Talking seemed to clarify her understanding.

Tutoring review by Travis in Mounds, OK
The student and I met for the first time today. We worked on Riemann sums and looked at right hand sums in particular. We also looked at the lim as n goes to infinity of the sum of i = 1 to n of a function w/ delta x, and we related these limits to the definite integral. We then looked at definite integrals and their values. We discussed different notations and how they relate to sums of rectangles of increasingly smaller width and how they eventually approximate the definite integral.

The student and I finished our prep sessions this past Sunday with an all encompassing brush-up. I threw many different questions at her from different sections to see how she had retained the information that we had been going over for the last few months. She performed admirably, and I have no hesitation in saying that she is ready for her upcoming ISEE. In other positive news, she officially received word that she will be awarded time and a half for each section.
