Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
" I spoke with the student's Geometry teacher yesterday. I told the student that bi-weekly or at least weekly follow-up with his teacher probably will help his scores a lot. We went over anticipated test materials - drawing figures from the information presented in sentence form, being careful to identify rays, lines, and segments as such, naming angles carefully, and some simple proofs that might be on the test. At mom's request, we spent some time on Chemistry. He made 97 per cent on his last exam. He is as good as anyone can be with the confusing matter of significant figures. The class is just getting into Avogadro's number and molar calculations. We concluded with a discussion of water of hydration, and how that counts in calculating molecular masses."
"We focused on reviewing concepts from the student's class in an attempt to get ahead. As we worked, I determined she might need more work on identifying slopes, line equations, and parallel and perpendicular line characteristics. Overall, she is improving in her skills."
"The student and I continued working on the triangle unit. Today we reviewed medians, altitudes, midpoint, radicals, and quadratics."
"During this session we continued reviewing for the student's geometry test. She has definitely improved in her understanding of the material but needs to continue practicing as she still struggles with remembering concepts. I created a practice test for her and highly advise using it as outlined in my email. Feel free to contact me with any questions between now and Monday night!"
"The student and I reviewed for her exam in biology. We spent the majority of the time working through her teacher's PowerPoints, extracting the information that is important and defining concepts that weren't well explained. At the end of the session she felt she understood what she needs to concentrate on while studying."
"The student and I worked on practicing geometric proofs, particularly with proving congruent triangles. Properties applied in proofs included addition and subtraction property, substitution and partition property, reflexive, supplementary angles, CPCTC, etc."
