Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I finished his Western Civilization essay he has due on Monday. The focus today was on formatting those ideas into proper essay format. The student will need help working on developing more basic sentence structure before he is capable of writing an essay like this own his own. I hope to work on this area with him as soon as possible. In the meantime, however, the student was able to formulate the ideas and arguments for an essay based on information he did not understand a few weeks ago. And with help, those ideas were put together in proper essay format. The student has come extremely far these past few weeks and although he still has a long way to go in his writing skills, he is demonstrating the work ethic necessary to continue to improve. If he can learn writing skills as fast as he learned new reading skills over a week ago, I am confident he will continue to head in the right direction."
"The primary focus for tonight's session was mapping out upcoming assignments and brainstorming ideas for the student's projects. First we worked on finding topics for her presentation, and she came up with a topic both of us were excited about: the impact of climate on history. Next we looked at the prompt for her first essay. We developed a plan for the coming week, mostly reading the material."
"The student is very smart and engaged and appears interested in the subject. The first session was dedicated to a brief intro to the study of history (its concepts, techniques, etc.) and her concerns for an upcoming exam. Her primary problem is that she is very good at understanding the material when it's in front of her but has difficulty recalling it later. We spent the majority of the session reviewing strategies for the understanding and retention of information. We will meet again to review these and see how effective they are."
