Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I discussed and worksheets dealing with pronouns and verbs times. He did very well with all exercises and after the lesson answered all the sentences in the worksheet. We then worked on Spanish vocabulary and discussed some of the work he is doing in his reading for Raisin in the Sun. For the next session I will bring some information on the play so that we can discuss it."
"We began by going over vocabulary dealing with the body, illnesses, and going to the doctor. The student was able to match parts of the body with their uses in Spanish. We then used the verb 'dolerse' and role-played as a doctor and as a patient. The student first used words that a patient would use to describe and list his symptoms, and then acted as a doctor to diagnose my symptoms and make the correct prescription. He then completed a 'si/no' sheet to verify if a remedy matched the correct illness. He did great!"
"This session, the student and I reviewed comparative and superlative adjectives and adverbs. We reviewed forms of first and second declension adjectives (longus, longior/longius, longissimus) and adverbs (longe, longius, longissime). We also reviewed third declension adjectives (fortis/e, fortior/ius, fortissimus) and adverbs (fortiter, fortius, fortissime), noting that neuter singular comparative adjectives are identical in form to comparative adverbs. We then practiced translating with a passage from Caesar's "Gallic Wars." We will continue focusing on the verbs (person, number, tense, voice, mood). Also, finding clauses can be very helpful by looking for subjunctives, infinitives, and introductory words like "ut," "ne" and "cum." Good work today."
