Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I started by going over his essay on Apollo. I pointed out a few errors in spelling and usage, but the prose, on the whole, was engaging. We spent the most time working on revising a sentence in which the syntax suggested that Apollo's hands were talented and handsome. I resisted giving him alternative ways of arranging the sentence and had him find grammatically-sound options. Next we worked through his spelling/vocab list, taking time to discuss roots and cognates."
"We discussed the students personal statement for her medical school application and made notes of some points to include. She is a very good writer and just needs guidance on the focus of her statement and how to make it stand out. We also did a free-writing exercise to help her get her thoughts down without self-editing at the same time."
"Today we continued brainstorming the how to writing that the students are working on. We did a graphic organizer to begin to get the steps ordered and organized. They worked through that very smoothly. We also worked again on revising and editing. I took them a few guided practices of editing and revising their work. For next session, I will have them do some independent practice. We also reviewed word work patterns."
