"Today we went over an introduction to the test and discussed what the student has and hasn't worked on at his school. We went over scoring and then began a little diagnostic on the Verbal Reasoning and Reading Comprehension sections because he said he's scored very highly on math and needs most work in those. He's done some work on Reading Comprehension, and it definitely paid off because he aced the passages we did! Sentence completions were strong as well; the vocabulary needed some work, so I introduced certain tricks and gave some homework for Friday."
"The student and I did an overview of the different questions and sections on the test so that I could get an idea of his thought process as he works through questions. As we went through the questions, I mentioned test taking strategies specific to the questions, like estimation in math and evaluating the author's tone and main idea of the passage in reading comprehension. In future sessions, we will focus more specifically on the strategies, and practice questions using the strategies to evaluate which work best for him. There are also a few math concepts that we will cover, including graphing lines, evaluating volume and surface area, and understanding exponents and square roots. These questions are not the most common on the test, but he is eager to learn new math concepts, and these will help him answer the harder questions. We switched off between quantitative questions and reading comprehension, and my goal is to work toward staying focused on reading comprehension longer. He is eager to answer the questions. I'd like to work on reading techniques that can build his interest in any subject. He is enthusiastic, a quick learner, and eager to share his knowledge and ideas. With a few test taking strategies and lots of practice, I think he can do very well on this test."
"We continued practicing problems involving slopes, as well as problems from both the quantitative reasoning and mathematics achievements sections of the test. All students were engaged and motivated."
