Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent some time focusing on multiplication facts to increase the student's fluency. Right now he's focusing on his 4's. We also spent time working on adding and subtracting fractions. He is much more confident now on finding common denominators. He made progress on converting improper to mixed number fractions, and we will complete additional practice to solidify his understanding."
"We went over the student's math test from the other week. She also has a math project for extra credit, so we went over the directions and filled out some of the information. She is going to clarify some of the directions with the teacher, and we will work more on it at the next session."
"The student and I went over her math homework on solving inequalities involving absolute values. We went over interval notation, compound vs. regular notation, and how to graph the answers on a number line."
"The student and I worked on fractions, especially composing and decomposing fractions. She excelled at composing them, but she struggled a bit with decomposing them. Her struggle was in remembering that she didn't have to change the denominator at all. After my explanation, she was able to complete the problems on her own by the end of the session."
"The student showed some progress in working with ratios and formulas (along the lines of if a cake calls for 5 eggs and two raisins, how many raisins do you need for four cakes). This topic will require patience, but hopefully, we can get him to understand the need to do the math when he can't immediately see the answer in front of him. We will continue to work on this."
"Today, we focused on study skills and learning times tables. We also worked on basic adding and subtracting. The student's attitude was positive, and she was full of energy and determination today. I left her with an assignment to learn certain times tables."
