Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is very smart, but needs a little assistance understanding the finer points of Chemistry. To be honest, he asks questions that are on par with a college student. I think I'll try the Socratic teaching method with him next time we meet, and let him take over the direction of the session, with me as a science dictionary for him to use on the side."
"She had questions about specific example of hemoglobin binding to oxygen and how certain equations were derived and what they mean conceptually. She also had to revise and expand on basic enzyme kinetics concepts we covered last session. All this was accomplished and she is confident about taking the exam tomorrow. The student had most trouble with understanding concepts behind equations and my goal was to explain it all qualitatively to better understand how those equations were derived."
"We covered IR spectra and how they can be paired with MS results to deduce the structure of a molecule. She seemed to follow my explanations, but also said that her professor did a bad job of explaining it. Her last test was an 84 which is much improved."
"The student and I worked through her review for her final on Friday. She seems really well prepared for her final! I am optimistic that she will do well. Looking forward to hearing how she does and potentially working with this family in the future. Enjoyed working with her!"
"Today the student and I covered the cardiovascular system for her biology quiz this week. We talked about the functions of the cardiovascular system, the different organs involved (heart, arteries, veins, and capillaries), and how blood pressure works. We first went over her notes together and then I quizzed her on the material. Her only issue was memorization of the material, especially the definition of capillaries and systolic/ diastolic pressure, so we made sure to cover those extensively until she could tell me about each in detail."
"The student and I covered new material that she will be tested on at the end of the week. She was introduced to nuclear chemistry and radiation - alpha, beta and gamma. She caught a hold of the material impressively quickly and is more than confident moving forward."
