Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I helped the student solve a multi-part volume of solids of revolutions problem that he will present in class this Friday. We then discussed our plan for the next three sessions before his final exam. We discussed which topics he wants to review the most, and we reviewed the Extreme Value Theorem. He wrote an example of where the theorem works and one where it does not apply."
"Today's session covered translations. Explained and demonstrated how to complete this type of transformation. The student then completed her worksheet on translations. I also gave her the general formula of how too complete several reflections. Always a pleasure tutoring her. She will bring her Math binder and her Social Studies home on Wednesday to review for her state exams and her finals."
"Reviewed the concept of finding Perimeter of a Rectangle using formula (2xL)+(2xW). Student had to find the perimeter of a rectangle or square given the length and width. He also had to find the side length of a square given the perimeter. After completing his homework I gave him a practice worksheet."
"During the session, the student and I reviewed the formulas used in parabolic transformations. Most of these transformations involved deriving equations from the foci of parabolas, the directrices of parabolas, or the latus rectii of parabolas. We reviewed these in several contexts, including the graphing of equations for the derivation of equations from graphs. After reviewing this material and drilling it, we moved on to chemistry. The student had one question on stoichiometry that had to do with finding the molecular formula versus the empirical formula of a chemical compound. He understands the material now, he just needed somebody to show him how to do it. Looking forward to seeing the student again!"
"The student had had a test recently, and we went over the questions he missed. A lot of it seemed to come back to him quickly, so time may have been more of a factor than his core understanding of the material. We made sure to extend our discussion of each question beyond what was written to confirm that he understood each concept thoroughly."
"The student had a week's worth of advanced material for us to go over. Since he will have a test next week before I see him again, I went over all the new material to give him a head start. Materials covered include: - solving exponential and logarithmic inequalities graphically and algebraically - word problems involving exponential growth/decay, compound interest"
