Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we covered Pythagorean theorem for majority of the session as well as movement of polygons within a coordinated plane. Whether the object translated, rotated, dilated, or flipped along an axis. He struggled with the concepts at the beginning but started to get a better grasp as we were finishing up. Something we are continually working on is basic math skills improving constantly plus what he is currently learning. He seems to be doing well in class overall though. Strategies covered were Pythagorean principles mostly--great session today. Lots of learning and review."
"The student and I continued practicing AP Calculus problems today, this time covering area, rotational volume, cross-sectional volume, interpreting derivative graphs, and differential equations. She did very well with the material, and her pace was much improved from last week as well."
"The student and I worked on calculating volume using integral. Our discussion seems helpful. She needs to practice more on these questions to improve her comfort level with each step in the process."
"During this session, we continued with chapter 3. The student had asked to go over logs, so we reviewed that. We went over the properties and did some practice problems. We then moved on to the next section, which involved evaluating logs. We did a few practice problems from each set of problems. He had a quiz that he was preparing for. At the end of the session, he seemed quite comfortable with the material."
"Today, we covered more trigonometry topics, which mostly included the various identities and manipulations of the identities. I asked the student to practice some problems with expanded forms of the identity and try to identify the identity being used in the problem so that she can readily switch back and forth between identities."
"We covered domain and range, increasing and decreasing of a function, and transformations. The student struggles most with identifying which steps he needs to take. Once he confirms which steps to take, he can handle the rest of the problem from there. We will continue to discuss this in future sessions. His attitude was positive; he was willing to take in new information and listen to new approaches. Strategies covered included, a brief overview of the order of operations, color coding for graphs, and using the vertex as a first step of transformation. I am pleased with the progress of the meeting, and I am eager to see if the skills learned have been retained."
