"Today we covered ten new pre-primer sight words. We practiced both reading, writing, and spelling the words from memory. In addition, we did some basic review by playing some games and reading stories."

"Today was my first meeting with the student. We discussed the book he is reading in his English class, "Kite Runner." He is fairly comfortable in his understanding of the plot, but wants to expand his vocabulary. After talking through what is going on in the story so far, we went through some vocabulary words by looking in the book to find the words and understand them by context. We specifically looked at words that appear in Ch.15-20. We did not get all the way through the list, but I left him with 10 or so words to go over before we meet again next week. After finding the words in the book and talking about what they mean, we did some practice using them in sentences. Here is the word list: nonchalantly, incessant, garrulous, collateral, melancholic, wallow, pragmatic, presumptuous, proverbial, oblivion, empathy, animosity, surly, rueful, deliberate, ruminate, contemptuous, furtive, morosely, benevolence, profoundly."
