Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session we reviewed the concepts on her worksheet. Some of the concepts she needed to review again and she took lots of notes to be able to help her through the problems. We also discussed how to determine probability, worked on some word problems, determined the equations of linear lines and graphing them, finding percent increase and decrease, and surface area/volume of regular polygons/prisms. She needs to spend some more time reviewing over all the concepts and plans to get a blank worksheet and work through the problems again."
"The student and I worked on two units to review for her math final. We worked on shapes, areas of shapes, volumes of shapes, old surface area, new surface area, scale factors, and solving for the variable/simplifying the equations."
"91% on her factoring quiz! Yay! We reviewed final packet; I wrote down a few pages of examples, rules, and charts on things to remember. Hope she'll do variety of problems in the packet tonight; I encouraged her to jot down notes to herself about probs/process. We discussed meeting over the summer starting mid-June to review old material and upcoming Geometry. I'm so excited about reviewing, especially the Geometry. Over the years, I've discovered cool, fun ways to keep all those postulates and theorems together. She and I can create our own "geometry journals" online. I wish her the best on her final! I can't wait to hear how she does! It's been a pleasure."
"In this session the student and I continued reviewing the rest of his textbook. These chapters were a bit more dense so we moved through them more slowly, but she was attentive and learned very quickly. We went over graphs of higher order functions, finding asymptotes, and more logarithms. Some of these problems became quite complex but after time, she was able to grasp the concepts involved in solving them and have a stronger understanding of key relationships involved in mathematics. Overall it was a very good session and she is showing strong improvement."
"We covered using the integral to find the volume of a 3D figure using the cylindrical shell method, evaluating the improper integrals to see if they converge or diverge, and using partial fractions before evaluating an integral."
"The student and I covered factoring quadratic equations and the zero product property. She seemed to do very well with these concepts and appears to be a great student. I have an Algebra I textbook and we did practice problems out the of the text and I explained to her how to do each concept in fine detail and then let her go through them on her own."
"We went over another homework assignment that reviewed factoring. The final exam is in one week so the next few sessions will be mostly review. She will finish the practice exam I gave her a couple weeks ago. I have another practice exam that we can go over as well. She's made tons of progress in factoring, which is the majority of algebra."
"During my session with the student today, we spent the entire 1.5 hours ensuring that he mastered the chapter on percentages in preparation for his test tomorrow. We reviewed everything from converting from a decimal, percentage increase and decrease, discount and mark-ups, and simple interest. He was able to calculate the correct answers for all potential test problems. I gave him a practice worksheet that I crafted for him and I worked with him to ensure that he always shows his work and takes his time to calculate accurately."
"We were finishing up some coursework for the end of the year - review. We covered a variety of questions."
"Last session, the student had a 60 question review packet for the final exam. We got through about half of it then and got through the other half this time. She would work one page at a time and then I would check her work and point out mistakes and/or alternative ways of solving problems including using the calculator."
"The student and I worked on solving parabolas to find their x-intercepts and vertices and graphing them. We also talked through the meaning of the various points of interest on the graph in the context of a word problem. I left 4 problems for him to do Wednesday night before his Thursday test and left the solutions with his dad."
"The student recently received a review packet for her final. Thus, we spent most of our time reviewing this, discussing graphing, factoring, completing the square, and other topics. We discussed the creation of a study guide and a general overview of materials. We will meet again on Sunday at 6:00pm."
