Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has a worksheet with a sampling of problems that she needs to know how to work through for her final exam. We spent time simplifying exponential equations, determining and graphing linear lines, determining the correlation in data, and graphing inequalities."
"Tonight we reviewed math content for the student's final exam. The exam will cover concepts from Chapters 7 -11. Students were provided with review sheets for all the concepts/material. We went over sections she had questions on. The student understands how to compete the problems. We talked about exam strategies, slowing down, and checking work. I think she will do fine on her exam."
"The student has final exams coming up soon, so we sat down and considered how her exam schedule and our tutoring schedule would dictate the needs of each session. After breaking down which subjects should be covered when, we took a look at her grades after several sessions of tutoring. She had made excellent progress in several classes and more than doubled her grade in her Principles of Business class. Encouraged, we then spent our remaining time working on an exam review worksheet for her Algebra 2 class. I asked her to gather more information about her exams in preparation for our session the next day."
"The student and I worked on her final review for her final exam. We worked on factoring, reverse FOIL, setting up word problems in to a system of equations and solving for a variable, and graphing functions using different methods that she has learned over the course of the semester."
"Today the student and I worked on a review for his final exam. We went over systems of equations, finding x and y-intercepts, domain and range, factoring, and exponents."
"This is the first meeting with this student. She had a lengthy review sheet involving polynomials, conic sections and a significant amount of material on logarithms. We went over a number of these problems. She is pretty comfortable with the conic sections questions. Graphing the polynomials is a difficult exercise, since some of them are even x^5 functions and some must be sketched freehand while others can be inputted to the graphing calculator. We will meet again in two days to go over her Physics review sheet."
"The student is preparing for her final exams this week. We started by going over algebra 2. She wanted help initially going over her most recent chapter. The chapter covered simplifying and solving radical equations and imaginary/complex numbers. It required using her knowledge of quadratic equation, solving binomials (factoring and FOIL), using conjugates and completing the square. She seems to be doing very well. She does a very good job solving the equations. Most of the time, she is able to do it on her own. She seemed to have a good handle of the material towards the end of the session. We actually have a few more sessions before the exam to help her prepare."
"The student and I worked on problems based upon concepts covered within the second half of his math review. We identified problem areas for him to focus on when he studies for his math exam this week. If he reviews these concepts, I think he'll do just fine on his exam."
"I started the session by working on chemistry with the student, specifically balancing equations. Then, we spent some time on his math review. Overall, the session went well, and he understood balancing equations after we worked on them."
"During this session, the student and I reviewed for her final test. We worked on model drawing word problems, probability, and did a thorough decimal review, with timed exercises throughout. She had still been having trouble remembering how to properly line up decimal operations, so we did a lot of practice with them, especially with subtraction and adding in zeroes where necessary. For probability, we again went through independent events and when to multiply them, as well as how to use given information to identify whether the denominator should change or not between events. Finally, we worked on model drawing. She has made a lot of progress with these, demonstrating a lot of good, strategic thinking. She has been doing especially well with ratios and percentages, so we will spend the remainder of our time working on fractions."
"We covered a few areas of study including logarithms, trigonometric functions, and factoring. I did not see any grades. We were preparing for an upcoming final. I left him with a couple of worksheets to practice for his test. The session went well."
"The student's teacher gave her a study guide for the final exam. We did algebraic equations, solving for x and as an extra step we reviewed slope and point slope. We will continue point-slope and slope at our next session. We also did a two minute challenge on one of the long algebraic equations and she solved it in thirty five seconds. Excellent session. She also did very well on last exam."
