Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We had a good first meeting. We are working on putting together a schedule for the semester and got started on reading review."
"I worked with the student on organizing a paper for his art history class. He wrote the paper on Claude Monet's impressionist work, "Sunrise". The paper was written in the style of a formal analysis. I did not see any scores/grades to note his progress, however, by the end of the session, I feel that the student had gained a clear understanding of how to write a formal analysis; he is likely to have to write more than one in his class so this will be good information for him to have. The student was struggling most with understanding the fundamentals of how to write a formal analysis (describing color, form, historical context, etc.). By the time we ended the session he had written a paper that met all of the requirements specified on the grading rubric from the professor. He was a bright student and I feel that he learned a lot from this session, and will be able to effectively write any formal analysis that he might have to produce in the future for this class."
"We first discussed the DBQ she had written on Friday and it turned out to be one that we had not prepared for. However, the student thought she did pretty well and based on the content she told me she wrote, it does sound like she did well. She will get the results this week. I then gave her an 11 question practice AP Exam test on multiple choice questions based on documents and she scored 10/11. This was a strong indication she will do well on that portion of the upcoming AP exam in May. The rest of the session was spent reviewing an outline I had created for chapter 36. The outline was very comprehensive, and given that she had not read the chapter as yet, she found the outline to be of great help."
