Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The lesson was on geometry. We worked on problems involving angles of elevation/angles of depression, and found the missing sides of triangles. We also went over the Law of Sines and Law of Cosines and solved problems that used both in order to find the missing sides and angles of triangles. I recommended more practice problems from each section in order to prepare for the exam."
"Went over congruent triangles - proving them congruent and then working with them. The student did well. He definitely has a great grasp of this chapter, and both his geometry and algebra skills were super sharp tonight. Great work!"
"Today was mostly a session focused on getting the first student ahead in Geometry. We worked on similar polygons as well as proportions used to solve similar sides. He grasped the material quickly and worked through all problems with ease. The second student needed help only with a subsection of her Algebra 2 work. This was creating explicit formulas for sequences and patterns. Other material for her test tomorrow she already understood, so we did not review further."
"I met with the student very briefly today to work on geometry. I had prepared a practice problem ahead of time and we worked through that for our entire session. The problem consisted of calculating the area of a rather complex geometrical shape. We worked through that and I'm confident that next session we will finish up chapter 7 review and move on to material not yet covered by her class."
"The student and I began reviewing and using the equations and theorems from the reflection, translation, and transformation chapter. We also reviewed the definition of isometry, point/line of symmetry, and tessellation."
"Today we reviewed for the student's geometry test. We covered geometric proofs and triangle theorems and postulates. I recommended that she use flashcards (or whatever device is best for studying) to remember the relevant definitions. Having a clear understanding of the definitions will help with proofs and as she continues on in geometry, as this class will just build on past ideas. She did know some of the theorems, like the alternate angle theorems. I also encouraged her to practice writing proofs when she can. I recommended a website that's a pretty good site to get some practice in. It was a pleasure to work with her this evening."
