Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"At today's session, the student and I worked on two responses to topics for her psychology course. We are seeing the relationships in concepts which is providing a greater understanding of concepts for her. Working on assignments is also strengthening her comprehension of difficult text."
"Student 1 and I read chapters 1 and 2 of My Daniel. She had a bit of difficulty comprehending what she was reading when she was reading out loud, so we worked on skills for comprehending the text. We worked on her notes for the project. Student 2 and I reviewed his Math work for a makeup test. He seems well prepared. We read from Maniac Magee. Student 3 wrote his own story, working on spelling and storytelling."
"I had the student complete a page in his review book. Then I gave him an essay question from the ELA exam. We outlined the essay together and then he wrote the opening paragraph. He is going to finish it for homework."
"Our word association game continued with verbs this session. Previously we had worked with nouns. The verbs were in -ing form and while still fun, the student found it more challenging. She did well and again chose words for practicing creative ideas in full sentences. We read from a book which contained many new words which she knew already, but had never seen in print. She was pleased to visually realize words, concepts or phrases which were already in her body of knowledge. We talked about starting work soon on a final piece of creative writing which she can be proud of. She is deciding what form it will take in the coming week."
"We reviewed fractions and equivalent fractions. We then discussed math homework. Then, we worked on helping verbs and past, present, and future tense. We reviewed the science concept of heat and temperature. We also discussed science vocabulary. Lastly, we reviewed spelling words and Adelina's Whales for comprehension."
"Today, the student and I worked on math and ELA test prep for the assessment exam. We started with math. Today, we reviewed place value concepts up to hundred billions. We worked on adding and subtracting numbers (through to billions). We also worked on specifically identifying operations through word problems. Then, we moved onto ELA. We reviewed various passages from an old 4th grade assessment exam. We answered questions on the passages. We also brainstormed essay concepts. Overall, I am extremely pleased with the student's understanding and knowledge of math and ELA concepts. I am confident that he will do very well on the exam."
