Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has a test tomorrow on systems of equations. He was confident in solving them by substitution, which we covered last time together. This time, we covered other solution methods, which will also be required for the test. This was a good opportunity to go over some fundamentals on fractions."
"The student had a test last week and asked if I can come on Wednesday to help review the material with her. We went over differentiation of different functions and differentiation rules, writing equations of tangent lines, and anything else that she wanted to review. She was able to work through all the examples from a past exam and the few questions that she had, I was able to clarify for her. She was engaged and receptive to learning during the session."
"The student is showing improvement with many of the subjects. We worked through some of the chapter 3 quiz questions that he answered incorrectly, and discussed some of the rules for transforming equations (translation, reflection across an axis, etc.). We also worked through how to model real data using Excel and quadratic/cubic fits."
"The student and I got started this morning going over some of the past concepts that have been giving him difficulty: complex arithmetic, the Rational Zero Theorem, graphing rational functions, solving polynomials, and binomial expansion. He said my explanations helped greatly, and I noticed that much of the work marked wrong on his past quizzes was in fact mostly correct, with just one or two mistakes at the ends of problems."
"Today, we worked on lesson 5.5 from the student's textbook. It consisted of working with polynomials (i.e. difference and sum of cubes). We also covered a topic that may be taught in class later on this week. He showed and vocalized his understanding of the topic and questions we covered today. As of now, our next session will be on November 1st to review topics that will be taught later this week for his test on November 2nd."
"The student and I went through some first order linear differential equations problems and a problem that involved finding the equation of a parabola when given the vertex and the focus. He did a great job working through the differential equations problems. Nice work this session!"
