Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed a couple of problems the student missed on her quiz. We also worked on adding mixtures, and we will cover completing the square for the test."
"The student and I went over his homework assignment on rational exponents. He did well on the problems. We also talked about what math class he should take next year because he is currently signing up for his classes."
"We continued with our lesson on the elimination method. We then went back and completed the questions for Unit 1 and then reviewed d=rt problems."
"Today we covered how to graph different functions on a plot. This included predicting the shape of the graph and then using numbers from a domain to create the graph. In addition, we also prepared for a history and Spanish midterm for tomorrow."
"The student worked on his homework on the computer. The topic included categorizing polynomials by number of terms and degree. After that we moved on to adding and subtracting polynomials. He grasped the idea pretty quickly. He did have some struggles with the positive and negative, but eventually got it. We then finished with multiplying polynomials by a monomial, and multiplying 2 binomials. He seemed to be getting the hang of it by the time we were finished."
"Today was a particularly packed session. The student had two sets of homework to complete. We went over the quadratic formula and completing the square. She did very well with the quadratic formula, partly since she was familiar with it from the last time we worked on it. She finished that homework set handily. Completing the square is definitely a more difficult method for students to grasp. It's a kind of method that just takes practice. The student struggled with it at first, but she became faster at it as time moved along. We were able to complete the second homework set with no time to spare. It was a great, productive session."
