Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over math mostly because the student has a test on Tuesday. I gave him a one-week study plan for both math and social studies. He needs to follow the plan for social studies. He struggles with simple math concepts, but works really hard to understand the concepts."
"We practiced spelling for next day's quiz. The student has some trouble with words that are not phonetically friendly. This week's spelling list contained 20 contraction words. He knows how to spell words he is familiar with."
"We thoroughly went over the student's essay from his Native American studies class, revising it so that he could earn extra credit on the paper. In the essay, I mostly corrected grammar errors and run-on sentences, as well as strengthened the vocabulary of the essay. As we went through the essay, I commented on a couple of grammatical concepts that would be helpful for future essays, including citations and not ending sentences on verbs or prepositions. After we went over his essay, we talked about his upcoming opinion essay in his global climate change class. We went through the rubric/guidelines for the paper and discussed each topic and how to synthesize them into one fluid essay. We outlined the discussion points for each body paragraph and the introduction. The session went very well and he seemed to really benefit from the discussion on his upcoming essay."
"The student and I managed to complete half of a history essay during today's session. She needs to purchase the book "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" and read it in order to complete the next few assignments."
"The student got her Math test back. We went over the questions that she got wrong together so that she understands where her mistakes were made. She had science work as well, just some questions that we went over."
"The student decided that his first priority today was to complete his math homework. I am very impressed with his ability to follow through with a difficult process. He is obviously very intelligent, but also possesses very good reasoning and strategizing skills that are necessary for success in academics (and later employment, etc.). When he answered incorrectly, he kept going, looking for where he made an error. He admitted that my presence encouraged him to persevere when he might have given up on his own."
