Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Went over recent quiz with improper integrals and convergence, reemphasized the "special rule" and how it switches from 01 and 1inf.
Went over expressing a sequence and monotonicity for his test."
Went over expressing a sequence and monotonicity for his test."
"Today we went over test material for the student's test next Wednesday. She handles the material much better than when we started, and is progressing well. She remembered the "LIPET" strategy that we discussed for integration by parts, and handled trigonometric substitution much better. The student has to focus on the negative sign errors within a double integration by parts, as well as with indefinite integrals. She also needs to focus on trigonometric substitution, which she will go over this weekend again. We also covered slope fields and a brief mention of differential equations."
"We covered rates of change and derivatives. He was able to understand concepts better. He struggles with some of the physics aspects of change. I told him to keep up with his SAT studying for his next test in April."
"The student has an exam tomorrow, so we looked over the material the exam will entail. The subject was sequences and infinite series. Most of the work in the student's review was utilizing convergence tests for a vast variety of functions."
"In this evening's session, the student and I worked through part of his Chapter 5 Test Review packet. The main focus was logarithms and solving logarithmic equations using the various properties of logarithms and exponents. We had to review some of the properties of logarithms as we worked our way through the review, but he picked it up pretty readily and we finished nearly the entire packet by the end of the session."
"The student did okay on his trigonometry quiz, and got an 80. It is an improvement from his previous grades in math. I went over the mistakes he made on the quiz. I also explained to him in more depth, trigonometric functions and the unit circle. I also briefly went over some Earth Science stuff with him, as he is going to have a test on Monday."
"Reviewed concepts of initial confidence interval to secure the foundation to conduct calculations. Utilized the calculations to explain what the data is displaying based on the sample size, standard deviation, critical factor, and other variables. We also reviewed the relationship between confidence intervals and standard deviation within normal distribution concepts.."
"During the session, the client and I discussed the desired structure of our future sessions. I also worked with the client on understanding how to add and subtract rational expressions. We worked on how to find the common denominator and simplify the answer. We worked through several examples, and the client seemed to have a better grasp of how to solve such problems."
"The student and I worked on solving systems of equations by elimination. He was stumped by one of the word problems, but figured it quickly, once we started to unpack it. No concerns."
"The student had taken a test earlier today so she didn't have any new material to cover. We reviewed what was on the test and talked about how to use a compass and protractor."
"We continued to work on problems covering the differences between populations. The student is picking up this material fairly well despite having a school instructor who does not always show up to teach due to other administrative responsibilities."
"We worked on solving some complicated quadratic functions. Many of these functions were fractional which was a good opportunity to review finding common denominators and all the algebraic gymnastics that goes with it. We worked through a series of diverse problems that illustrated a lot of the different ways these complicated quadratics could be arranged. We then had to check for extraneous solutions. I was able to explain why some solutions are fake and how to make sure your solutions are correct. A good session that was a good test of his skills with fractions, positivity and negativity, and algebra in general."
