Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I reviewed the practice Math sections on geometry and word problems that the two students completed for homework and reviewed the problems with which they were struggling. We also completed a practice writing multiple choice section, where we reviewed grammar rules, as well as some of a practice reading section, where we reviewed problem solving strategies for both the vocabulary and reading passages. I assigned them an essay to complete for homework, and also gave them an overview of the strategy for essay writing and how the essays are graded."
"We did more practice problems from the SAT book. She is doing extremely well, almost never missing any. I want to instead focus on writing since that is where she seems to have the biggest issues. We will meet again in two weeks, and she will have written some papers by then for us to go over."
"Today I worked with the student on learning to identify word roots and make guesses for unknown vocabulary based on word root similarity. We also went over her practice SAT essay and discussed what areas needed improvement."
"The student and I reviewed several math sections that she had completed since our previous session. She is improving tremendously with her math but we will continue to review some of the more difficult concepts such as geometry and probabilities. She also asked to review one of the essay prompts that she struggled with. We reviewed some essay writing strategies and worked on improving some of her examples. The student will take a full length practice exam prior to our next session."
"The student and I met and he completed a writing section, a math section, and a reading section. He did well overall! I am planning on meeting with him on Saturday. I didn't give him extra practice. He has ordered a practice book since he wants to study for this test."
"We did general diagnostic test questions from each section of the SAT to assess strengths and weaknesses, and also reviewed techniques for the writing portion of the exam. As the student feels she is weakest in the Math portion of the SAT, we will focus our next session on the Math portions. She is a bright student who is self-motivated during the tutoring sessions."
"The student did better on her SAT Writing homework. We went over the missed questions from both sections before further examining the essay prompt and beginning our SAT Math review."
"Both students and I had our first session today. We decided to split the time as 1 hour/ each. The first student and I started with going over her SAT results and her goals. She said she wants to score in the 2000's, which I told her is possible as long as she is continues to practice and work hard. She also had some questions about the college-applications and standardized test score process, which I answered. We began with the critical reading section and I pointed her towards vocabulary lists, reading higher-level literature, and looking up unknown words during our sessions to boost her skills. The second student and I went over her goals as well, and we decided to work out of the SAT book. We started with the writing section and made it through completing sentences and began with finding errors."
"Today, we reviewed 3 sections of math and learned some techniques to approach different math questions."
"The student and I reviewed the homework that I assigned him. He did very well with ratios and showed a lot of improvement on his geometry when we went over homework assignments for volume and surface area. We briefly went over concepts about parallel lines cut by a transversal and did some problems regarding this, which he mastered. I assigned him a post-test for these types of problems for our next test-prep session."
"Yesterday we did a quick diagnostic run-through of the assessment. I had the student do an essay and one section each of math, reading, and writing. This was so the student could have her first exposure to the test and for me to see get a sense of where she will need help."
"Today we drilled the writing section, especially in regards to improving paragraphs. We also worked on math, discussing a number of level 3, 4, and 5 (out of 5) difficulty questions including angle questions and permutations/combinations. The student continues to answer above 95% of questions correctly."
