Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student worked on a warm up math crossword to start off the lesson. We then discussed money and worked on creating steps to solve money word problems. The student used money manipulatives with the first word problem and, for the next two, he understood that he could skip using the manipulatives and go directly to the computation. The student also improved his logic skills during this session. The next session is on Saturday at 5:30pm."
"Went over some problems in the student's book regarding inheritance and interface issues, and programming questions using arrays. Covered some material on hexadecimal conversion. He thought his recent test in class went okay, and is preparing for the state test next week. We set up another review session for Sunday at 6pm."
"We reviewed the student's most recent geometry test and then worked on her homework involving the creation of 3d shapes through the rotation of 2d shapes. The student initially had a lot of trouble visualizing these shapes but improved as the session went on."
"The student and I reviewed her book chapters on inscribed angles, inscribed quadrilaterals, and angles formed by intersecting lines and segments in circles. She asked plenty of questions and seemed to understand when doing the examples. We also completed her homework on inscribed angles. She had few errors when doing it."
"The student has worked very hard and constantly made improvements. I believe his test scores will reflect this; he has put in a lot of work in preparing for the test. He did not seem to be too stressed or nervous about the test so far. I will follow up with him and his mother to see how everything went."
"With Student A, covered conditional probability and independence of probability. With Student B, covered graphing systems of inequalities. Also reviewed substitution and elimination/combinations of systems of equations. "
"Distance, Midpoint, Slope Formulas: Student already had all the formulas but was unsure how to apply them to specific problems. Once she was pointed in the right direction, things went smoothly. She is an accurate worker who makes very few careless mistakes. After reviewing the worksheet, we looked ahead to properties of quadrilaterals."
"Today we reviewed the finer points of the problems and I helped make sure she did not make careless mistakes."
"Today the student was getting ready to take her midterm exam, and came prepared with some questions that she needed help with from her studying (pH, hypertonic solutions/cells, and what happens to a bone in an acid solution). We also went over the 2 exams she has already taken and looked at/reviewed the questions that she had missed. I reviewed some test taking skills and tips with her (marking questions to go back to later, process of elimination)."
"Uniform circular motion was the focus of our session. We discusses angular velocity, centripetal acceleration, and solved problems involving forces. We discussed the relation of circular motion with curved movement and its accompanying acceleration. Towards the end of the session, we focused on developing physical models to express correctly the theoretical concepts at hand."
"Today was the last day before state testing begins. The class worked through a packet, reading two stories and then answering multiple choice and essay questions. I sat in the back with two students especially in need of attention, to help them focus. After, I circulated, concentrating on those students as they worked at their desks."
"We went over some book practice problems over 1st and 2nd derivative, local maxima and minima in curves and inflection points."
