Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student did very well today. We reviewed for his geometry quiz he has tomorrow over the different types of angles dealing with transversals and parallel lines. We also reviewed proving two lines are parallel by using its transversal and its angles. Also we talked a lot about slope slope that is positive, negative, zero, or undefined. We learned how to find the slope by using its formula. Also we learned how to find the equation of a line by finding the slope and yintercept. And we also learned to find the xintercepts as well. Also we learned to use Rise over Run in order to find the slope on the graph. Student will definitely be ready for his quiz."
"The student and I did her homework on the converse theorems for parallel lines. She needed a little explaining about why they needed to be reversed, but she seemed to understand by the end. She also got a 95 on her quiz. Her only mistakes were minor."
"Reviewed students recent quiz on area/volume. We then reviewed her most recent work with quadratic equations and factoring, which she completed with ease. I explained how to use the calculator to graph quadratic equations and find intercepts/zeros in that fashion. We then closed with some ACT practice problems."
"Today the student and I reviewed the first grammar lesson for the new chapter, which was the present perfect tense. We completed the notes and homework for this grammar concept. Then we caught up on all of the online assignments she has missed so that she will be more prepared for her final."
"This was my first session with the student and we talked about testtaking guidance more than any content review. We did three sections of a practice SAT together so that I could see how she works. She has a very good grasp of the content needed for SAT, which puts in an excellent starting place. We will work through every type of SAT question over the next few weeks, and hopefully she will become more comfortable with the entire process."
"Discussed active reading of biology book, including watching online videos and doing practice quizzes at the end of chapters. Discussed how AP Biology will emphasize memorization of terminology in addition to conceptual knowledge so it is important to be detailoriented. Reviewed French project. Discussed what a null hypothesis is."
"I had the student draw a diagram of the national court system, and instructed him to include any relevant facts and figures related to the varying levels and courts of the system.
I gave him the Lesson 2 practice test and with the time remaining, he began to work on the essay portion, which is his homework for the next lesson, in addition to reading Chapters 8 and 9."

"Started with practice writing full name. Worked on four out of eight testing areasblock design, comprehension, vocabulary, and coding. Block design is advanced; comprehension is nascent; vocabulary looks good so far and will improve with strategy; introductory level coding was excellent with student finishing both exercises within the allotted time!"
"Today we started off with a little lab work. Then we reviewed homework problems discussing moment of inertia, centre of mass, torque, angular acceleration and rotational energy. We also talked about the various ways that translational systems relate to rotational systems."
"We went over the circle and parabola formulas today. Student seems to understand the equations but needs to work on a concept named completing the square. I showed him how it was done but I think we need to spend more time on that next session. Other than that he did good. He also mentioned that he received a B on his last exam which is very good. I hope that he keeps practicing on his homework so that he can continue to make good grades."
"We reviewed the material we went over last time: the Pythagorean Theorem, taking a square root, and finding interior angles of a triangle. Then we went over ISAT questions focusing on inequalities and using the material she's learning in class to answer ISAT questions. Then we talked about some test taking skills: not getting discouraged when she doesn't know an answer, and skipping problems to come back to them later."
"The student and I worked through his chapter 3.1 homework today, covering linear, quadratic, and rational functions. The student struggled in particular with putting quadratic equations into vertex form. We did several extra practice problems from his online practice set, and I made up some additional problems for him to work out. He seemed to understand best when we worked problems from standard form to vertex form, and then back to standard form so he could see how each individual step affected the end product and have a way to self check his answers."
