"I had the student read Charlotte's Web aloud then asked him some comprehension questions. He had to look back at the book for one question. Next we read two short stories and answered the questions that followed. I used a whiteboard to show him the difference between the main idea and details in a story. I asked him whether certain sentences were a detail or main idea. We reviewed the KWL chart and strategies for reading. Next we read a short story and filled out the KWL chart. Last we read a short story and answered questions aloud. The student stays focused during tutoring and asks questions."
"I introduced the student to a new tracking system utilizing stickers when he reads a book. He was very motivated and jumped into his reading of Dr. Seuss' "Fox with Socks," a whirling tongue twister of a book. We really enjoyed reading it and due to the nature of the words being so similar he realized how important it is to slow down and focus on the letters. He did a marvelous job with the book and read all 61 pages!"
"The student and I reviewed a variety of skills. We worked on the individual sounds of every letter within a word and then we blended the word together with those sounds. We reviewed the short vowel sounds that a and e make and we reviewed beginning sounds of words."
