Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered domain and range of functions. Also how to denote intervals. No concerns from this session."
"Today the student finished most of his homework reviewing combining like terms and substituting in values for variables in multivariable expressions. He worked mostly independently and did a great job checking his answers. He only asked me for help a couple of times and seems to have gotten more comfortable adding positive and negative terms. Great job today!"
"Today was a very successful day. The student came with eagerness and was very productive. His mother told me that she has seen a difference in his math performance inside the classroom and also said that he was eager to see me today which was very rewarding. We reviewed the steps for one step inequalities and began a new content which involved Geometry. In the time span that we had he quickly understood the content and seemed to enjoy it. He is a great student who is always eager to learn. I left the mother with some practice assessment questions."
"In preparation for the student's test on Thursday, we reviewed convergence tests for series, including the comparison test, integral test, ratio test, root test, and tests for absolute and conditional convergence. We worked problems and used different tests on the same series to show they lead to the same results. Overall, she is well prepared and I expect her to do well on Thursday."
"We went over problems for her upcoming test. She caught on quickly so we moved on to the problems on the tablet. The problems were geometry based, with questions about volume, area and perimeter of various shapes."
"The student and I continued to work on more practice proofs using coordinate geometry. He understood the problems better today and was able to work through most of them without help. I guided him through some circle theorems and formulas that he used to complete those problems."
"We went over section 4.5-- solving proportions (e.g. 12/x = 40/48, solve for x). We first did a problem the formal, traditional way by multiplying both sides by both denominators to understand how that helps us to isolate the variable. Then we talked about the shortcut of using cross multiplication."
"We covered several exercise questions in chapter 5 to prepare the student for her test on Thursday and Friday. She understands the approximation methods (left, right and middle) and the trapezoid method and most of the rules for combining functions (sum or difference), constant multiples and sum and difference of different intervals of the same function. Also she understands how to generate another function using a different variable per FTC part 1. We also covered the mean value of a function by evaluating the definite integral and dividing it by the difference in the limits of integration. She will email me if any questions come up before she completes both parts of the test."
"The student and I spent the entire time reviewing the last few concepts she had questions on for the math portion of the assessment. She is doing very well and understanding the concepts well. We practiced test-taking strategies and I went over new concepts like the quadratic formula."
"Today we worked on math problems for the first half of the session, focusing on word problems dealing with order of operations and basic algebra. The second half of the session we focused on spelling."
"Today, the student and I worked with finding the zeros of a polynomial. We mostly worked with cubic polynomials and worked with techniques like synthetic division, Descartes Rule, and multiplicity. The student picked up multiplicity and Descartes Rule pretty quickly. We worked through a couple homework problems and then I came up with some of my own."
"Today we worked on multiplying, dividing, adding, and subtracting complex polynomial fractions. The student did very well with this concept as we worked more problems. We talked about how her last test went and she reported that it went very well."
