Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We talked about how to take the Laplace transform of the dirac delta function. I was very careful to mention that the dirac function does not behave like a standard function and how that impacts the derivation of its properties. Finally we discussed convolutions."
"The student and I reviewed her recent test on logarithmic functions and made test corrections. We then practiced with her current material of systems of equations and matrices. She was very bright and what she had the most difficulties with was word problems and minor errors in long problems. We'll continue to work on these in our next session. She had an excellent attitude and I left her with some notes on matrices and additional practice problems for systems of equations word problems. She has a quiz this upcoming week."
"We worked on a practice exam covering series and ways to determine if the series is converging or diverging. We went over the ratio test in great detail as well as working on writing out the first few terms of a Taylor series. The student had a great understanding of everything we covered and seemed very prepared for his exam."
"We covered compound interest and simple interest. Once I explained the concepts behind the equation, the student was good to go. He wanted to really understand the material."
"During today's tutoring session, the student and I discussed using proportions to make inferences and conclusions. He was familiar with proportions and how to solve them, so we focused our attention on understanding what the proportion means. We also worked on graphing boxplots and dotplots as well as calculating mean and range from given data. Throughout our session, we focus on why we were doing it and what it means, because he was familiar with how to do it. We focused on why are we doing what we do and how it makes sense in the real world."
"The concepts we covered were factoring binomials, factor by grouping, and factoring polynomials. Factoring polynomials was a brand new concept for the student; I included strategies to help her tackle this concept. She grasped the concept very well and was able to demonstrate her understanding by solving the practice problems I presented. Her attitude towards the material reviewed was very positive! In addition, her mom notified me that the student received an A on her exam this past Wednesday, which was wonderful news!"
