Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student reviewed for her math exam. She worked on irrational and rational numbers, solving algebraic equations, order of operations, multiplication and division of exponents, using the number line to understand solving algebraic equations, and multiplication and division of numbers with the same signs and opposite signs. It was an excellent session. She is prepared for her exam."
"The student and I reviewed her homework on probability, and I also gave her a 50-question "test" to see which topics she was struggling with most to identify what topics to address for the assessment exam. Her biggest concerns were measurement conversions, probability, ratios, and slopes. We will cover each of those after her classwork, over the next few sessions."
"We went over the free response questions for this section. The student did well. He typically got about 75% of the questions posed. I told him that even if you don't know the answer to the hard questions, try to achieve as much partial credit as you can. I'm going to write up some practice problems for him to work on later and give them to him during our next session."
"We went over prime and composite numbers, proper and improper fractions, and the area/perimeter of rectangles."
"We reviewed prior topics as listed in the student's grade report. We did problems with PEMDAS, linear equations from point/slope and slope/intercept, proportions, midpoint formula, direct variation, and inverse variation with the constant "k." She did well with these exercises. She had forgotten the midpoint formula, but she could easily do the problems when I gave her the formula. Some of the direct and inverse variation problems were new, but she caught on quickly. She just needs to be a little careful with the parentheses in PEMDAS."
"Today we reviewed linear function and quadratic function. Even though the student had a hard time understanding the concepts and making necessary connections with the problems, she still tried really hard. I suggested she do the following when reviewing in the future: (1) read through the concept, (2) watch through video example, and (3) work through example in the textbook following each concept. I hope she can review the first three chapters, correct Test 1, and finish Practice Test 1 before our next session. Overall she did a great job!"
