Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We began the session with a worksheet on telling time, specifically word problems involving addition and subtraction of time. It is exactly what the student is working on in school. She struggled a bit, but once she analyzed each problem, she knew what to do; she didn't always know how to do it. When she could add, and it didn't total over 60 (one hour), she was fine. When it added up to over 60, she needed help to turn it into hours and minutes. She did finish 8-10 problems rather quickly. Next, we focused on Math, and she finished all problems before the end of the session. Some involved multiple steps and critical thinking skills."
"This was our first session together. We started by getting to know each other and what she would like to get out of ours sessions. We set up our schedule for the remainder of the month. We covered solving Systems of Two Inequalities by graphing. The student struggles with word problems, so I gave her some techniques to create equations from the problems. She typically struggles with math, but I made the graphing material simple and colorful to identify steps for solving. She is very visual, so this helped her immensely."
"During this session the student and I worked graphing linear, power, quadratic, and exponential functions. This included completing a values table, determining the range and domain, and writing a next-now equation. She did very well with the exercises and made only simple calculation errors."
"We continued to work on her study guide. The student needed a quick reminder on what the powers of ten do to a number when multiplied or divided, but she remembered quickly. I pointed out to her to remember to bring down the zero when dividing after the decimal point."
"The student feels ready for her State Math Exam and received 100 on her last class test! We worked on her weekly math sheet which reviewed the following concepts: order of operations, word problems, fractions and exponents. I left her with the rest of her sheet to work on which we will review tomorrow."
"The student was excellent today! We completed her spelling homework. That was her only homework today, so we had extra time to work on speeding up our process for solving addition facts. We also learned cursive I and u!"
