Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered multiplication and division. The student practiced several multiplication facts and division algorithms. She did need a little assistance with some of the division algorithms. She did well with the multiplication facts. She is a really good student. She wanted to practice these skills for her continued success in math class. I feel she continues to make awesome process. She had a productive session today."
"I gave the student a practice math SSAT test, which consisted of 15 questions. I gave him 30 minutes to do it and I know that was more than enough time for him to do it. After the 30 minutes, I looked through his answers and found that he got 10/15 correct. Regarding about the problems he missed, I think he'll benefit from reading the questions more carefully and if he finishes early, he can go back and check his answers. I think we're making progress in preparing him for the actual SSAT. Later on, we've touched on proportion problems, which he was able to do easily."
"The student had some homework from during the week regarding the inverse and identity properties. We reviewed the concepts, and once she knew what each property stood for, she was able to complete the homework without any assistance. She requires direct instruction on the concepts that are covered in class, and then she shows confidence in completing the assignments. Her other homework was to complete an end of the chapter review. She was able to apply many of the lessons we have worked on to the work, but didn't always understand what the instructions of each question was asking. I will continue to work on how to decode instructions so she knows what is expected."
"Today I showed the student the sticker chart I made for her to encourage her to read more (as per her school homework). Every day she reads at least 15 minutes at home, aloud or by herself, she gets a sticker for that day. I brought her a new book today, Bunnicula, and we agreed that when she gets 25 stickers, she can pick out another book. She asked a bunch of questions about how the system will work, about how she only gets stickers if she writes down what she reads. I think she seemed very excited about it, though. She also did her math homework, more basic multiplication, which she is getting more and more comfortable with."
"The student and I covered writing and pronouncing the letter D, as well as recognizing the first five letters of the alphabet. He has a hard time with remembering things, so a lot of repetition was needed, though he did improve. I asked him to practice naming the letters on sight with his mom on a regular basis."
"During this session, we worked on the student's new book, and she completed all the problems very fast and accurately. Also, she was struggling to read the time clocks, but after a couple of tries was able to easily tell time."
