"In the first half of the session I worked with the student on translating word problems into equations. I made a chart with various signal words so she could study which words translate into which mathematical functions. Then we practiced multi-step word problems applying what we used. In the second half of the session, we worked on writing. She has a Betsy Ross essay book report due for class so I worked with her on writing the actual essay since we brainstormed and took notes last week. I gave her a color-coded outline which matched her brainstorming sheet so that she can continue to work on that the rest of the week."
"The student worked on Math and Reading. Then, he worked on identifying rules in a pattern of numbers. He can identify the pattern when using addition or subtraction patterns. We also worked on elapsed time. He is able to tell and show time on an analog clock and is able to identify elapsed time to the hour. He needs more practice for elapsed time by the minutes."
"On Thursday, we worked on a review of chemistry that the students had received from their science teacher as preparation for a test. We got through most of the packet, which covered acids and bases. I could tell they had a good understanding of the concepts by the end of our session."
